In Taormina also for 2023 we are preparing for Christmas. There are several initiatives around Taormina, some certain others still to be defined, to ensure that Christmas 2023 is the beginning after the dark era of COVID. Let’s start with the decorations that are in the planning stage. As usual, Corso Umberto will be embellished with Christmas lights and iconography, the Christmas tree will be built in Piazza IX Aprile, small nativity scenes will be set up in the streets of Taormina, the permanent nativity scene in Piazza Sant’Antonio in the church near the Catania door parking. Each shop window will undergo a transformation in a Christmas guise competing to see who will decorate their business with originality.

The Christmas decorations also present in the hamlets of Taormina and in the surrounding villages will make the atmosphere magical.
As far as the events are concerned, there is still nothing definitive but some are recurring every year such as the bonfire that will be set up on December 31st both in Piazza Duomo and in Piazza Santa Caterina, the year-end countdown in Taormina, the various musical events which will be held throughout the Christmas period in the churches of Taormina, the most important living nativity scene in Sicily which will be held in Trappitello, the largest fraction of Taormina, the small events for children which will be held on Corso Umberto, the foot race and the dive into the sea on the first of each year and much more. All this will be organized hoping that Christmas 2023 in Taormina will bring joy and happiness.

To this must be added all that can be done in Taormina and its surroundings during the Christmas period. In Sicily the Christmas period is not particularly cold so it lends itself well to those who love long walks in nature or for those who love walking on the beach enjoying the sun’s rays which are the order of the day here. Taormina and its surroundings can be a base for visits to Etna, to the neighboring villages which are also celebrating the Christmas period. In short, there is so much to do.
